WHAT CAN OUR CAREER CENTER DO FOR YOU?

Any customers wishing information on job openings may peruse the newspapers and other periodicals in the resource area, conduct a search on the internet or conduct a search on America’s Job Bank. Career Center staff can facilitate referral to America’s Job Bank or other listed job openings if necessary.

The Career Center offers customers a variety of information on training and education opportunities. Information and referral to resources are provided in a group setting by workshop leaders and on an individual basis by Career Center Case Managers and Counselors. Eligible individuals may have their training or education funded by one of the Career Center partners. Those who are not eligible for this funding may meet with a representative to discuss career decisions and alternative sources of funding for their training or education needs, including assistance in applying for federal financial aid.

Labor market information is presented initially during the Career Center Orientation and later during counseling. Job seekers are also able to do market research on their own through resource materials available at the Career Centers.

Any interested customers may attend (one or more) Career Center Workshops. Workshops are planned around resume writing, interview skills, networking, and virtually every job search modality.

Eligible job seekers are offered income maintenance, issue resolution, the ability to receive assistance in the use of the automated phone claim system, and the opportunity to file claims for unemployment insurance on-site.

Career Center staff will offer customers an initial assessment, which will include an assessment of skill levels, aptitudes, abilities and supportive service needs. Customers desiring the development of action plans will meet with a Career Counselor from the appropriate partner agency. The Counselor will help the customer develop an individualized plan which will define the steps and resources necessary to take to achieve self-sufficiency, gainful employment and economic prosperity.

Career Center staff will direct job seekers to the America’s Job Bank and contact companies regarding positions for which they are qualified.

Counselors will determine the job seekers’ need for supplemental assistance in order to succeed in employment. These could include the resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency, gainful employment and economic prosperity, such as child care or transportation, or similar services. Individuals who do not qualify for supportive services will be referred by Career Center staff to local sources of help.

Eligible job seekers may utilize the Computer labs located at the Career Center and receive instruction in keyboarding, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access.

JOBSEEKER SUCCESS STORIES

Danielle enrolled in the MY TURN program in January 2018.  A high school graduate, she was determined to continue her education, but two young daughters and managing her life on her own left her with little time to devote to post-secondary education.  Working with MY TURN, Danielle realized that her goals were absolutely within her reach.  Hard-working and motivated, Danielle hit the ground running and on March 1, 2018, began the Nurse Assistant Training Program at the American Red Cross in Leominster.  After 4.5 weeks of an intense classroom and clinical experience, Danielle graduated from the program receiving awards for both perfect attendance and honor roll.  Danielle did not waste time putting her newly found skills to use.  In April 2018 Danielle began full-time employment as a nurse assistant at Oakdale Rehabilitation Center in West Boylston, MA, a division of Oriole Health Care Centers.  In May 2018, Danielle completed and passed the Department of Public Health’s Nurse Assistant Exam and received her nurse assistant certification/license.  Danielle is currently enjoying her employment and the benefits that have come along with it.  Danielle’s plan moving forward is to enroll in the accelerated Practical Nursing Program at Montachusett Regional Vocational High School’s School of Continuing Education for the Fall 2019 semester.
